Not really about Long Island but, when you talk about the LIRR do you usually say "L-I-R-R", "L-I double R", or just "Lirr" pronounced kinda-sorta like "lure"?

I say either each letter individually, but mostly i’ll just refer to it as “the train” or say Long Island railroad fully lol

Best places to eat in Long Island?

I forgot about my post bc I was eating a mac and cheese/doritos dinner afskdhskdb. Also my dear anon I can Tell you are from anywhere but here because its “on” LI, never “in” but you’re valid, we’re just Like That

I havent been out to suffolk county much since I live in nassau but my favorite diner (every long islander has a fave diner) was the empress on the intersection of newbridge + hempstead tnpk. They closed for reason unknown to me but they had killer burgers

The cheesecake factory over in westbury is real good but that’s a chain, but still good

Lombardos pizza is god. I live on the same block as the place. The owner always gives me like 6 extra knots no matter how many I order bc I’m a regular. He still gives me the student special even tho I’m not a high schooler anymore. Long island pizza is just superior and you cant change my mind, fuck chicago fake pizza or wherever talk to me when your crust is crispy and panko breadcrumb coated deliciousness with just the right amount of sauce

Bageltown is the god of the bagel places. Located in my cozy busy hometown Levittown. Again Long island bagels are just Superior. People will tell you it’s the salt water air from the sound and ocean and they’re fucking correct what else would it be????? Magic??

This is a chinese food place but Peking house is amazing. Cheap, friendly delivery drivers, godlike tempura sweet + sour chicken. Used to live across a main road from it but then we moved

THE COW. the cow. The Cow. It’s a tiny dairy mart in the tri county back parking lot, right near the high school. Literally. Every single senior would go to the cow at least three times a week to get lunch bc seniors had open campus privileges. The owner got to know each of us quick and if you went often enough you could walk in and your usual order was already on the ticket hung up for the cook. I went once after graduation with my mom before work and as soon as I relayed my (fairly simple) breakfast sandwich he said “I remember you!!” And he asked about college and stuff. They’re so sweet I love them. It’s called the cow because it’s painted like a cow with the spots

Any deli. Literally any deli please go to one and if you say sub sandwich theyll understand but will know you’re not a local

Millers Ale house is a staple. We go there a lot when we want to be waited on but dont want to go to a fancy restaurant. It’s tucked between a few buildings but it’s there. Really good steak but they do make it a bit dry if you ask well done so I usually get medium well (itit’s a perfect well done steak that way and not too seared that it gets dry). Also in levittown I really don’t get out much

Izumi is the best hibachi place ive been to, but if you want just as good for a bit cheaper, mt. Fuji in wantagh is amazing and the chefs are very lively and engage just enough where it’s perfect but not disruptive to your own conversations (I only say that bc one place I went to the chef went a bit overboard with entertainment, which isnt bad, but it was a get together for my aunts birthday so we wanted to see the show + then eat and converse, not all 3 at once)

I’m still kind of a picky eater so I just really listed the places I frequent and like the menu they have, but there’s TONS of stuff around esp if you go to the north fork where the wineries and clam farms are

are you a su crit? im just curious

Nope! I don’t crit su regularly (wording?) nor do I like the crits, but I did follow some (like repair-doods) that had… valid and reasonable posts and not the asinine “rebecca and all stans = fascist apologists” or who applauded daisy treefarm

you said you were hard of hearing right?? how do you know when things are loud/are things still loud to you?
image

i am! i can still hear relatively okayish, but things are more muffled than they would be to someone who has perfect hearing. i wasn’t always HOH either, it  developed over time and i only started to notice a real difference a few years ago.

to answer your question, i know certain things are loud objectively–things like fireworks, loud bangs, and alarms are supposed to be loud, so even though they don’t bother me because of the volume, i know they’re loud sounds because i recognize that they can be heard over a larger area and from experiences with them in the past. i’ll still be able to hear a fire alarm for example, but it won’t be blaringly loud (the ones at my high school were so loud that i was the only one BARELY not covering my ears because i could tolerate it).

if you put one of those air horns next to my ear and press it i’ll jump back, but if you do the same thing a few feet in front of me you’ll catch my attention at most.

My headphones are constantly set to the max volume and don’t sound loud to me, and my music is always set to louder than normal in the car. i constantly have closed captions on (except at the theaters bc its too much of a hassle to get a captioning device just to watch a movie). My headphones are also set to have more sound/louder sound come out of the left ear to balance because its worse than my right (which is why youll constantly see me with my headphone in my left ear to make sure i can still hear whats goings on around me).
